So what is this field called Client Input Deadline (CID)?
Another way of describing the CID is the deadline for absentee (commission) bids. This only applies to Live Auctions. After the time the CID is set for, registered bidders are no longer able to place absentee bids on the Web Module. It is still possible to submit absentee bids as an administrator, however.
Why is it important to have a Client Input Deadline?
The scenario where the CID is useful is when holding a live auction and using the paper auctioneer’s book. When the auctioneer’s book is generated and taken to the auctioneer in order for the auction to begin, it will display all absentee bids submitted up until that point.
However, if we allow bidders to continue to place these bids once the auctioneer’s book has been printed, the auctioneer might miss some of these bids. Staff members would also have to be continually updating the auctioneer’s book with these bids during the auction, which could create problems.
Can I change the Client Input Deadline?
Yes, even once the auction is In Progress (see this page for more details about auction statuses: Auction Statuses ) the CID can be changed.
Clicking Close Client Input will close the CID in advance of the set time.
Clicking Re-Open Client Input will re-open the CID once it has closed.
So there you have it, that is the Client Input Deadline. Remember, this doesn’t apply for timed online auctions or live auctions when using the live bidding software.
