Launch an auction

Modified on Thu, 7 Mar at 10:43 AM

Once an auction is fully-prepared and ready to be revealed to the world, i.e. all cataloguing is complete, it is time to launch the auction catalogue.

On the website, this will move the auction from the ‘details’ phase…

…to the catalogue being available to view and accept bids.

How to launch it?

It’s quite simple to launch the auction; first of all, find the auction in the Auctions tab.

Then simply click the Launch Auction button on the auction dashboard.

Why can’t I click the Launch Auction button?

There will be scenarios where clicking the Launch Auction button will do nothing. The button is ‘greyed out’ and cannot be clicked. This is because certain criteria have not been met for some lots. We need to resolve the issues with these lots before the auction can be launched.

The Catalogue tab on the submenu will show how many lots are ‘ready’. In this case, 289 out of 314 lots in the auction are ready.

The lots can be identified as "Ready" or "Not Ready" using the Show Ready Lots dropdown in the filter in the Catalogue view.

These lots will have a red cross in the Ready column. Hovering your mouse over each red cross will give the reason that the lot is not ready.

The quantity of lots not ready can also be seen by clicking Auction Details under the Actions dropdown.

When there are red cells in the Sale Ready row, the amount of items in each category that are not ready are shown.

Reasons why a lot might not be ready

Missing Figures:

  • Reserve

  • Starting Bid

These values need to be filled in for an auction to be launched.

Figures don’t match an increment

To solve this you can simply edit the low/high estimate, reserve or starting bid to match one of your increments.

The other option is to add a new increment. You can do this by clicking the Actions dropdown and Edit Auction.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Advanced settings.

The new increment can be type into the Bid Value Increments table.

 Vendor Commission is missing

Every lot must have a vendor commission charge attached. If you are not charging vendor commission, a 0% charge must be created and added. Read more about how to add charges here.

Lot is not attached to a consignment

A lot must be attached to a consignment to go through an auction.

To add it to a consignment, you can client the Add to CA button on the item detail.

Lot is already active or sold in another auction

If the item is already part of another auction and hasn’t been resolved as unsold, it can’t be listed in another auction.

To remove the lot from the desired auction, click the red bin icon on the Lots widget on the item detail.
