Automatic Lot Sorting ️

Modified on Tue, 12 Jul, 2022 at 9:45 AM

Often, the sorting of lots before an auction can be time-consuming
The good news is Snoofa has built a system to help remove some of the work when lotting up an auction.

How is this going to help me?

Items are automatically ordered by the chronology of when they were assigned into an auction by the software. When using Snoofa’s lot sorting options on the Catalogue page such as the drag and drop and move after features, changing this order significantly can take some time.

We can get ahead of the game by using the automatic lot sorting feature to add some ‘pre-ordering’ to every item that is assigned into a specific auction. For example we can organise the lots to be ordered by value (high to low or low to high) and segment them by category. Of course, the order of the lots can still be changed as much as is desired from the Catalogue screen.

So how to we do it?

The good news is we’ve made it nice and straightforward to use. This can be set up when creating the auction in the first place, or edited later on.

  • Head to the bottom of the the Add New Auction or edit auction page

  • Click on the Advanced Settings bar at the very bottom of the page.

  • Click Enable Automatic Lot Sorting

The different sort methods

Default: This will mean any items assigned to an auction will lot up in chronological order
Reserve Price: When this is selected, the items will be ordered by reserve value
Low Estimate: When this is selected, the items will be ordered by low estimate value
High Estimate: When this is selected, the items will be ordered by high estimate value

The Sort Direction can be selected to choose which direction the above sort methods are lotted.
A → Z is low to high
Z → Z is high to low

Category Bands

In addition to the above sort methods, category bands can be set up to ensure lots populate in the order of the categories chosen. For example, all Clocks could appear first, followed by Ceramics and then Wines and Spirits. Within these categories they could appear by reserve value, from low to high.

Changing Lot Orders

When Automatic Lot Sorting is enabled, the ordinary lot sorting features (drag and drop and Move after) are disabled.

There may the desire to do some more changes to the lot order in addition to the automatic sorting methods. This can be easily done.

  • When ready to make some changes to the lot order, click the Disable ALS button on the auction dashboard (this only appears if Automatic Lot Sorting is enabled in the auction settings)

Now it is possible to use the drag and drop function:

…and Move After function:

If clicking the Enable ALS button this will re-set the lots into the order specified in the ALS auction settings.

As a result the best option is Disable the ALS after all lots have been added to the auction. Then the auction can be launched afterwards without having to Enable ALS, thus re-setting any changes made.
