Creating New Auctions

Modified on Tue, 18 Jun at 2:40 PM

Adding a new auction should only take a few minutes. Watch the video and read on to find out how.

Start creating your new auction by clicking the plus icon on the top panel menu or by clicking the big orange Add New Auction button on the Auctions section.

Start by choosing the auction type and category.

  • Type: This is important because this determines how the lots are going to be sold e.g. in a timed or live auction.

  • Category: This is an optional label you can add to the auction to communicate to clients more information about each auction. You can find out how to set these up here.

Your auction needs to have both a short name and a long name.

  • Short name: This is internal only; clients do not see this and is a good way of keeping track of your auctions. This is often referred to as the sale code.

  • Long name: This is the client-facing name of the auction.

Both departments and target reserve are optional fields.

  • Departments: These can be added if you have set up different departments within Snoofa. This way, your work can be segmented to only auctions relevant to the selected department.

  • Target Reserve: You can use this tool to track the total reserve value of your auction as you are preparing it. The widget will appear on the auction dashboard with a progress bar.

Select your buyer’s commission and optional specialist in charge.

  • Buyer’s Commission: Clearly you want to have this in place, it is a mandatory field. Choose the commission rate for the auction. Individual invoices and lots can be adjusted if different rates are being offered.

  • Specialist In Charge: You can communicate to bidders if there is a particular expert who is responsible for the auction. Their name will display on the auction details and, if the information is there, a link to a short bio and image will be displayed.

The auction Description is where you can add as much text as you like to provide information about the auction.

This will be displayed behind the More Information button on the auction catalogue when the auction is in progress and below the other details when the auction is planned (upcoming).

The Important Notice field is a chance to flag up some important information for bidders. This will display above the auction catalogue and on every lot page of the auction.

Upload an auction title image to display above the catalogue (where there is no live stream in use) and on the upcoming auctions page.

These fields will only display when the auction type is selected as live (see the top of this page).

  • Location: Where you are holding the live auction.

  • Client Input Deadline: We only recommend using this option when using the paper auctioneer’s book and not Snoofa Live. This is because absentee (commission) bids are not possible after this time. You can read more about the CID here.

Auction Dates

  • Catalogue Launch: An optional field you can choose to advertise to bidders when the auction catalogue will be published online.

  • Aftersale Deadline: If you are planning to utilise auction aftersales, you can specify when this time period will end.

  • Shipping Date: If you plan to offer shipping, you can publish an optional date if all items are shipped on the same day.

  • Settlement Date: This is a mandatory field and is the date that vendors can expect to receive their settlement by. This date can be included in the Pre-Sale advice email template.

This is where you schedule the timings of your auction. You can read more about how to do that here.

Sale Events

These are a very useful tool to be able to communicate to clients about viewing days and pickup days.

  • Viewing days: These will display on the client-facing auction pages.

  • Pickup: These days will display in the invoice questionnaire when create for clients to be able to select when they will pick up their won lots.

Advanced Settings

  • Auctioneer Declaration: This is an official declaration that can be added to display on the front of the paper auctioneer’s book.

  • Bid Value Increments: These can be adjusted for each auction. Otherwise, they will be automatically populated with the default increments in the system settings.

  • Sorting Mode: Choose the method you want to use for sorting your auction catalogue. You can read more about that here.

And there you have it! Auction added. All you need to do is hit the green create new button when you’ve finished and the auction is ready for adding lots.

Top tip: Make sure you click the Publish button on the auction dashboard if you want to make the auction details public.
